Refund Policy

Community Education agencies may cancel any class or program that does not meet the minimum enrollment. A full refund will be issued to those who register for a class that is canceled or full. Refunds will also be given if weather or an emergency closes school districts. To drop a class you must request a refund from the agency with which you are registered three (3) working days before the class starts. No refunds will be given once the class has started.

Course Description:

This is a skill course is designed to meet the training needs of a Heavy Equipment Boss, single resource (HEQB) on an incident as outlined in the NIMS: Wildland Fire Qualification System Guide, PMS 310-1, and the position task book developed for the position. Primary considerations are tactical use and safety precautions required to establish and maintain an effective dozer operation. A field exercise is required as part of the course.

Objectives: 
  • Identify the administrative duties and procedures required of a HEQB.
  • Identify and demonstrate the heavy equipment inspection process and related duties of the HEQB.
  • Demonstrate the actions required of an HEQB to safely and effectively complete an assignment.
  • Discuss relevant information and methods for communication and tactics related to heavy equipment.
  • Identify the process of preparing for an all hazard assignment.

Personnel desiring to be qualified as Heavy Equipment Boss, single resource (HEQB). Minimum.  

Course Prerequisites:

Qualified as Firefighter Type 1 (FFT1).and or trainee (FFT1)  Satisfactory completion of pre-course work.

Instructions

  1. Please review the S-236 Heavy Equipment Boss pre-course work guide. 
  2.  Complete the Federal Wildland Fire Management Policy modules including the knowledge checks. Be prepared to discuss these modules in class.
  3. Review this publication, Mechanized Equipment for Fire and Fuel Operations (Yellow Book), prior to coming to class.
     
  4. Optional: Review the following video "Firefighters Inside the Iron".
