#: 31826107   ID:    Section:
Description:
Learn to swim with the Thunderhawk swim team! Lessons are provided by the Grand Rapids/Greenway Swim Association in cooperation with the Grand Rapids High School Boys’ & Girls’ Swim Teams. Proceeds will go towards swim team expenses & helping to create summer swim opportunities in the area.   All levels are taught water safety and self rescue skills.  The program is designed for ages 5-15.
Parents please read over the 4 levels and select the level you feel your child is currently at on E-From attached to registration.

Level 1-Participants must be ready to try things even if they're a little nervous. Level 1 swimmers will be working on learning to float on front and back, put their face in the water, blow out their nose, glide on front and back, kick more efficiently, roll from front to back, and retrieve an object off the bottom.

Level 2 Prerequisites-Swimmers should be able to float on front and back unaided. Roll over from front to back and back to front, kick with a noodle or kickboard and push off the wall into a float. Level 2 swimmers will be working on learning to float for 30 seconds on their back, front crawl, backstroke, rhythmic breathing, how to level off in deep water after jumping in, and how to do sitting, kneeling, and standing dives.

Level 3 prerequisites- Swimmers can do front crawl and backstroke, breathe rhythmically, level off after jumping into deep water ad dive into deep water. Level 3 swimmers will be working on developing their strokes and learning breaststroke.  They will spend more time in the deep end with skills like diving, treading water, and dolphin kick.  The end goal is to swim one length of the pool in crawl, backstroke, and breaststroke.

Level 4/Jump Start- Swimmers should already know front crawl, backstroke, and breaststroke and be able to swim 25 yards of the pool.  They should be comfortable in deep water, with treading water, and with rhythmic breathing in crawl.  This level will work to develop all 4 competitive strokes.  This is a great precursor to joining a swim team, but that doesn’t have to be your goal.
